growth mindset

Growth Mindset belief that the most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work

Brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.

Fixed Mindset belief that basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits; and that talent alone creates success—without effort. Exhibits behaviours such as documenting intelligence or talent instead of developing them.

No Moss continuously improves on its environment to help encourage and provide opportunities to cultivate the growth mindset.

Individually, each person at No Moss is expected to make a huge commitment to leverage that environment to build:

  1. Build grit and bricolage

  2. Engage in deliberate practice

  3. Design work itself to pursue flow

  4. Grow positive freedom to counter akrasia

Challenged? you just didn’t get it yet. You’ll get it soon, I bet. That’s the power of yet.

the shadow of growth mindset

We have learned that it is not an effective approach to adopt this mindset all the time; all aspects of life; all at the same time. It’s exhausting! Instead:

  • Individuals, in line with their forever pursuit of ikigai, should select some elements of their hard/ soft skills to develop

  • They should actively work on these with other No Mossers to coach and in solidarity

  • Frequent check-ins can be very useful; both from a reflection and external person to challenge and support perspective.
